Airsoft Claymore
Posted by AirsoftGuns.
In airsoft game play and scenario play, airsoft claymores are a great addition out on an airsoft field. A claymore is a landmine styled device that can shoot hundreds of BBs, powder, or a large number of paintballs once it is triggered, taking out several shooters at a time. There are some simple homemade ones, but for serious games, most players will choose to buy one. They add challenge to games and realism to military training.
Airsoft Claymore Origins
The airsoft claymores are based on military use claymores that shoot metal balls into a kill zone. The inventor, Norman A. MacLead, named the device after a Scottish sword. It can fire metal balls in a 60-degree arc, out almost 330 feet (100 meters). Military ones are remotely controlled and powered by explosives. Escort was among the first manufacturers to branch out and make devices like the airsoft landmines.
Cheap Airsoft Claymores
The cheapest claymore will be one that you make yourself. The most common homemade claymore is made with a rat trap and tape. You will need to find a way to secure it and it will be detonated with a trip wire. This can suit its purpose for a casual game or out on some open property. On paintball fields and in competition you will need more advanced models that are manufactured by one of the airsoft gun manufacturing companies. Shopping around or buying used ones that are in good condition will save you some money. Spring powered airsoft claymores will be cheaper than those that use gas because you won’t have the added cost of gas. Powder or flour will be less expensive than airsoft BBs.
Loading Airsoft Claymores
Most airsoft claymores will be able to be loaded with BBs, powder, flour, or paintballs. For airsoft play you will be able to load about 200 BBs to be shot from the device. If you use a powder instead of flour, you will want to make sure it is unscented so that the smell doesn’t give the location of the mine away. Using claymores means that you will need to make sure that you have enough BBs, air, and time to set it up. Always make sure you have fresh batteries.
Airsoft Claymore Setup
When using airsoft claymore landmines, you will need to practice a few times to assure that you are familiar with how it works. Where you set up your claymore will depend if you are using a trip wire or remote to detonate it. They are effective for following:
- Prevent infiltration
- Ambushes
- Protection of sniper
- Slow opponents’ movements
- Block bunker and building entrances
Since it has a directional spray, positioning will be important to make it sure it is effective. They work well on paths, in doorways, in entryways, and in hallways. Several strategically placed claymores will assure good coverage.
Detonating Airsoft Claymore Mines
The airsoft claymore mines can be spring powered or air powered. They can be triggered with a trip wire or remote. Some of the more sophisticated claymores and remotes will be programmable so that all mines will go off at the same time from a single remote or at different times with different remotes set at different frequencies. The more frequencies that a mine has available, the more versatile the claymore will be.
Claymores add a realistic touch to game play, especially military scenarios and provide an added challenge for both teams.
