Airsoft Gun Pellet
Home » Airsoft Equipment » Airsoft Gun Pellet
It is a round plastic ball that is used as ammo for the airsoft gun. The pellet ranges in weight from 0.12 to 0.80 gram and in size from 6 to 8 mm thickness. The most common size is 6 mm. The most common pellet colors are yellow and white; even though, many other colors are created, which include blue, green, red, and orange.
Types of pellets
The tracer is a must for night airsoft scrimmages. This pellet glows in the dark, which a player uses to see their path in the dark. The tracer provides better accuracy at night. The most expensive and rare type of airsoft pellet is the Blade Pellet, which was engineered to decrease the drag and increase the range and accuracy. In Japan, it was developed for the now extinct M700 and M40 rifles released in 1993. Another type is the paint filled airsoft pellet. This kind is not recommended because it regularly jams the gun barrel after a few clips. The paint pellet normally pops on the hop up.
Airfin Pellet
In September 2006, the Airfin pellet will be released for 2nd generation RAP4 airsoft guns.
6mm Pellet Weights
• 0.12 gram - A few gas and spring airsoft guns use this weight. this weight has high velocity and low stability and isn’t used in higher class guns.
• 0.20 gram - The most common weight used in airsoft guns.
• 0.25 gram - The standard for Tokyo Marui AEG, gas, and spring guns.
• 0.30 gram - Standard weight for most sniper rifles.
• 0.43 gram - Typically used for the top class gas and spring airsoft sniper rifles.
• 0.80 gram - Perhaps one of the heaviest airsoft pellet available. Normally, created of steel with a polished finish.
Pellet Classes
The class of the pellet varies among manufactures. A lower class pellet tends to:
• Show pockmarks
• Not perfectly round
• Have nipples or seams
• Unaligned air pockets
All of these problems with a lower class pellet could disrupt the accuracy and range.
The higher class pellet tends to be manufactured to perfection. Various high-end pellets are covered with low-abrasive materials to provide a high polish. This class normally has better accuracy and range.
