Becoming a Skilled Shooter One Shot at a Time

The “use it or loose it” theory is more accurate when it comes to airsoft gun shooting skills, than the theory “it’s like riding a bike-you never forget”. It is true, if you don’t shoot an airsoft gun for a while, you probably won’t forget how, but you will find that your accuracy and the skills that you had the last time you went shooting aren’t anywhere near as good. Developing airsoft shooting skills, maintaining shooting skills, and regaining shooting skills is done one shot at a time.

PREPARATION FOR SKILL BUILDING

One of the first things you need to do before beginning any kind of individual shooting airsoft gun shooting skill exercise is make sure your gun is in working order. It can be very frustrating to set aside the time, be ready to go and then have your gun malfunction.

Make sure you also check your ammunition supply. Even with a gun working properly, you can’t practice if you don’t have ammunition and a large supply of it. You will find that you will go through ammunition faster when skill building than in competition. It is better to have extra and take it back home than to run out right when you finally “get it” on the practice range.

ACCURACY AIRSOFT GUN SHOOTING SKILL TRAINING

If you can’t shoot accurately, you will be wasting your time on other strategies. Simply shooting at different targets and becoming an accurate shooter will be the first thing that you need to do. If you can’t hit a stationary target while standing still, you will not be able to hit a moving target on the field while you are running. Once you feel confident in your accuracy, you can then move on to other individual skill development training.

A recommended training technique to increase your accuracy would be by setting up three stationary targets with each one at different angle and range. For example, the first target would be placed 4 yards and angled to your right, the second one 7 yards and angled to your left, and the last target 13 yards angled in front of you. After your targets are set up, get into position and begin shooting. Each round will be with you shooting each target 5 times. Each practice session should have at least 3 rounds allowing you to begin on a different target each time.

OBSTACLE AIRSOFT GUN SHOOTING SKILL TRAINING

Shoot from behind an obstacle. Pick a spot that you want to hit, and keep shooting until you can hit it consistently. Crouch down, pop up, look around the target, and then shoot from the side of the target. Move quickly behind the target from side to side and shoot at the same target from each side until proficient.

ON THE GROUND AIRSOFT GUN SHOOTING SKILL TRAINING

Choose a target and shoot from the ground. Shoot from varied positions from the ground. Drop down, roll, prop yourself up, etc. Mimic the moves you will make when you are running between obstacles and may have to drop down to shoot. Keep practicing this skill until you can do it accurately consistently.

RUNNING AIRSOFT GUN SHOOTING SKILL TRAINING

There will be many situations where you will have to shoot on the run. This will take the most practice, because it is among the harder skills to become proficient at. Shoot at a target while you are running. Take the shot with different feet in the lead and shoot while running at different speeds. Use the same target at first and then you can change it up.

Practicing individual airsoft gun shooting skills will assure that you will shoot accurately on the field and be an asset to your airsoft gun team.
