Home » Airsoft Laws » Different Countries
While it is legal to own Airsoft guns in most countries, each country does have its own requirements. You need to have some understanding of these requirements, based upon where you live.
Australia
In Australia Airsoft guns are heavily regulated because they are considered to be imitation firearms. So, your Airsoft gun cannot look like a real firearm and if they do, you will have to get a Class A firearms license as well as written consent from the police in your state or territory. There is currently a group, which known as Airsoft Australia, that is working to get Airsoft redefined as a legally accepted sport.
Canada
There are some Airsoft guns that are illegal to purchase or to own in Canada because they are considered replica firearms instead of a toy. So, in order to import and acquire an Airsoft gun you must have a license. This is determined by the gun's muzzle velocity and the kinetic energy that is delivered upon impact. For this reason there are a lot of Airsoft gun manufacturers who are unwilling to sell guns that need to be shipped into the country. However, if you look hard enough you may be able to find manufacturers who are willing to ship you the guns in pieces, which the importation of these pieces is perfectly legal.
Finland
In Finland it is legal to have Airsoft guns. However, you will need to get permission from the local police before you play a game. Most of the time you will be able to easily get the permission that you need though.
Hong Kong
All Airsoft guns are considered legal in Hong Kong. However they may not be shot with a muzzle energy that is above 2 joule.
Japan
Airsoft guns are legal in Japan. However, these guns may not shoot with a muzzle energy that is above .98 joule.

However, if you want to own Airsoft guns you do need to be listed as a "Registered Skirmisher."
