Safety Precautions
Home » Airsoft Safety Precautions
At all times, safety precautions should be followed when owning an Airsoft Gun. A player must follow safety rules; take precautions in public places, wear protective gear, be familiar with the velocity guidelines, and know the two words that would halt an entire airsoft game.
Safety Rules
• At all times, treat every airsoft gun as if it is loaded.
• When not shooting, keep the barrel pointed in a safe direction.
• Always be aware of what you’re aiming at.
• Do not keep your trigger finger rested on the trigger until your read to fire.
• Never leave your airsoft gun alone while loaded.
Public Places
Since most airsoft guns are replicas of real firearms, it is highly recommended to never display your airsoft gun in public unless it is enclosed in a glass container, which could be a gun case or similar. The following is some but not all inappropriate locations to display your airsoft gun; malls, parks, stores, libraries, and schools.
Protective Gear
The most minimum required of protection in a skirmish is wearing impact-rated goggles to shield the eyes. If a player were shot in the unshielded eye, it would severely injure the eye. Battle Dress Uniform (BDU) or something similar weight clothing is normally worn to absorb the impact from the airsoft gun pellets. The pellets impact at reasonable range can place tiny welts on bare skin.
When a player is inactive, most fields require a barrel blocker. The two choices are either a barrel bag or barrel condom. A barrel condom is a little plastic barrel blocker, which fit over the muzzle. This one is less recommended because it can be shot off of the barrel and it doesn’t provide a very quick way to visually confirm for the barrel blocker.
In the other hand, the barrel bag provides an immediate way to confirm for a blocker. This equipment prevents an accidental chamber release to strike another player.
Maximum Velocity Rule
The velocity limits are between 280ft/s and 400ft/s for Automatic Electric Guns (AEGs) and 400 and 500 ft/s for single shot airsoft guns. The velocity is measured using 0.2g pellets. Before using an airsoft gun the velocity should be checked to prevent any unnecessary injuries to other players.
Blind Man
In an airsoft game, a player can yell the words “Blind Man” if a player or bystander is seen without protective eye gear on. This will bring the game to a standstill until the situation is resolved. Any player, who hears the words “Blind Man”, must stop all actions and also shout the words. These words are only used for emergencies because it halts the entire operation and all action, having a gun problem does not represent an emergency.
