Hybrid Airsoft Guns

Being the new kids on the block, the hybrids are essentially standard Automatic Electric Guns (AEGs) with additional features for extra reality, functioning similar to an actual firearm. Their first appearance on the market was in the summer of 2006 however they haven’t turn out to be very popular, yet. But you never know what the future has in store for them.

The hybrid airsoft guns functions different compared to the other types. The first most noticeable difference is the pellets used. Instead of the normal round cylinder pellet, they use actual shell casings with a red primer on the back. These shell casings are loaded into the magazine. Another very noticeable difference is the mechanism of firing a hybrid, which is identical to firing a real firearm. When the trigger is pulled, the firing pin releases and hits the red primer on the back of the shell. Cause a mini explosion creating high pressure inside the shell casing the pressure will thrust the pellet through the barrel at extremely elevated velocity. This velocity is unattainable by the other three types - electric, gas, spring – of airsoft guns. Some other noticeable features on these airsoft guns are:

  • After each shot, the shell casings are ejected out of the chamber
  • Realistic Smoke Effect
  • Full Blowback System
  • Electric Powered
  • Realistic Sound Effect

There are airsoft manufacturers that have token notice to hybrid airsoft guns and decided to develop and sell these types of airsoft guns. Currently, players have the choice to select from hybrid pistols, rifles, and sniper rifles. Some of the common manufacturers producing hybrids are Colt, KSC, and Tokyo Marui. Of course there are more manufacturers producing hybrids but not as widespread.

One of the most noticeable disadvantages of hybrid airsoft guns, the player needs to be more conservative with shooting because of the cost of ammo and the time it takes to prepare each round. This could be the main reason for this type of airsoft gun not becoming popular in the sport of airsoft.

When a player decides to buy a hybrid airsoft gun, they should be aware of the advantages and disadvantages before actually purchasing it. If the advantages outweigh the disadvantages, the player should go forth on buying it.
